2016 Rules

General Rules

  1. No Alcoholic beverages any drivers drinking alcoholic beverages before or during a pulling event will not be allowed to pull at that event.
  2. There is to be no hot rodding or reckless driving with your machine on or off the track.
  3. All machines must have stationary wheelie bars, operating brakes, and rear fenders.
  4. All drivers must wear a helmet, long pants, goggles or safety glasses, and leather boots or SFI approved fire shoes (no leather tennis shoes).
  5. Fire suits and gloves are mandatory in all modified and ultra-lite classes.
  6. Fire extinguishers are mandatory on all modified and ultra-lite machines (V-8 small blocks and stock altered garden tractors).
  7. If any puller or spectator causes problems at a pulling event they will be asked to leave and will not be allowed to return.
  8. No nitrous allowed in any class.
  9. The driver must stay seated on or in their machine at all times.
  10. The driver is to look forward at all times when pulling (don't look down or back).
  11. The driver must be in control of his or her machine at all times.
  12. Turbo's are not allowed in any class, except the outlaw garden class with a 3/8" bolt thru exhaust tube.
  13. All tractors or machines are to be built to what the rules say, not to what they don't say.
  14. All drivers must be with their machine and in line by the scales when it's time for your class to pull or your machine will be removed from the line up and you will not be allowed to pull.
  15. All machines will pull one time (no two drivers for the same machine).
  16. There is no jumping in any of the classes.
  17. The weight limit listed for each class includes the weight of the driver.
  18. You cannot pull in a class if you cannot make the weight limit.
  19. All drivers are to attend a drivers meeting before each pulling event.
  20. Your weights are to be fastened to you machine.
  21. Any weights falling off the machine while pulling will result in a disqualification.
  22. All drivers are to be at the pull site with their machine one hour before event is scheduled to start.
  23. All machines must meet the safety rules after the first pull.
  24. Any driver and machine is subject to being weighted immediately following their pull.
  25. Any and all disagreements will be settled after the pulling event is over.
  26. All machines must have single rear wheels, no dual wheels.
  27. There is to be no tire chains or studs in your tires in any class.
  28. The driver must have one hand holding on to the steering wheel at all times.
  29. All tractors are required to have a switch to kill the engine and fuel pump mounted within 6" of either side of center back of tractor, with a minimum 1-1/4" ring to easily connect to the sled.
  30. There is to be no changing of weighs on the track.
  31. No one younger than 5 years old and older than 7 years old can pull in the kids garden tractor class.
  32. No one younger than 8 years old can pull in the stock garden tractor class.
  33. No one younger than 16 years old can pull in the stock altered class unless the driver has one-year experience in the stock class.
  34. No one younger than14 years old can pull in the 0 - 580cc class.
  35. No one younger than 15 years old can pull in the 581 - 820cc class.
  36. No one younger than 16 years old can pull in the 821 - 1500cc class.
  37. The age limit for the 0 - 2400cc and V-8 small block classes is 18 years old (If 16 and 17 years old, the parent must be present at each pull with the driver. The parent must also sign a waiver at each pulling event before the driver can pull).

Track rules

  1. Only one pull per driver unless you are the first puller, than you have the option to turn down your first pull and come back in third or last position. This includes for a disqualification.
  2. Each driver will get one restart if the sled is stopped before the 50' line (this rule does not apply to a pull-off situation)
  3. Each driver will get one hook in a pull-off (driver cannot stop before the 50' line for a restart in a pull-off)
  4. If you are disqualified within the 50' line, a second hook is allowed.
  5. If any part of your machine touches or goes over the boundary lines you are disqualified.
  6. If anything falls off your machine while pulling, it will result in a disqualification.
  7. All machines will cross the scales and be inspected while lined up (your hitch height will be checked at this time also).
  8. If anything breaks on your machine, you can drop to last position (you will have two minutes after the last puller in the class).
  9. There is to be nobody running down the side of the track when a machine is pulling.
  10. The flag people and the sled operator have the final decision during the pull.

Garden Tractor Rules

  1. Tractors must have a solid hitch with a 1 1/4" opening.
  2. Your tractor must be a standard factory equipped tractor with a trans-axle (welded rear ends and positive traction rear ends are acceptable).
  3. Your hitch length can be no more than 18" in back from centerline of the rear axle and can be no more than 13" off the ground
  4. Your weights cannot be more than 12" outside the rear tires, 24" behind the centerline of your rear axle, and cannot exceed 7' forward of the centerline of your rear axle.
  5. Your weights cannot interfere with your handling of your tractor or your safety as the driver.
  6. There is to be no tractors with ball hitches.
  7. Tractor rim size (no matter what type of tire) is MAX 12" for the 0-13 hp class and MAX 16" for the 14-20 hp class.
  8. All tractors must have factory shielding in place and around the belts.
  9. There is to be no 4-wheel drive garden tractors.
  10. Wheelie-bars must be no less than 6" from the furthest part of rear tire and no more than 6" off the ground.
  11. Wheelie-bars must hold the weight of the tractor and driver and if your tractor has actual wheels (they must be steel or aluminum wheels).
  12. Must have steel flywheels (no cast iron).
  13. Must have nothing more than a V-pulley on the front of crank.

Stock Altered (16 hp)

  1. A single cylinder four-cycle flat head engine only.
  2. Engines must be Kohler, Tecumseh, Wisconsin, or Briggs.
  3. Engine blocks must have an OEM stock appearance.
  4. Engines must be factory productions or there OEM replacement with factory deck height.
  5. Stock head bolt pattern = > stock head gasket must fit over studs and bolts.
  6. Stock head bolt location and head bolt size.
  7. Maximum crankshaft stroke 3.25".
  8. Maximum engine bore 3.780".
  9. 36.5000 cubic inch limit.
  10. Maximum engine valve size 1.380".
  11. Maximum engine valve lift .330".
  12. Maximum carburetor venturi size 1.00" (no air entering after 1.00" restriction).
  13. Venturi must be round in size.
  14. Carburetor must be a stock appearing Kohler type.
  15. Carburetor must be mounted to the engine with no more than 1" spacer.
  16. No reverse port engines allowed, carburetor must go to the original stock intake port.
  17. Billet heads allowed.
  18. Porting and polishing is allowed.
  19. No external welding or external modifications allowed.
  20. All thread through finned area is acceptable.
  21. Welding permitted in crankcase area of the block for repair.
  22. Methanol fuel only, no additives.
  23. Must have a factory appearing hood and grill.
  24. Tractors must use stock garden tractor frames.
  25. Frames must maintain factory length.
  26. Tractors must have garden tractor rear ends.
  27. Wheelbase 52" maximum.
  28. Maximum tire size is 26 x 12 x 12.
  29. Tricycle front ends not allowed.
  30. Engine side shield mandatory opposite cam side min. 1/8" steel, or 3/16" aluminum. From bottom and to 4 1/2" above engine centerline of crank and min. 7" wide centered on engine.
  31. Drive shaft must have support or safety loop.
  32. Clutch 360-degree shield 1/8" steel, 3/16" aluminum drive belt 180-degree top.
  33. Fuel tanks may not be mounted to engine and vented away from engine compartment, no pressurized fuel tanks, and no nitrous oxide.
  34. Starter carts must have cover over battery and exposed terminals.
  35. All tractors must meet safety requirements before being allowed to pull.
  36. Must have a min. 2 1/2 lbs. Dry chemical, functional fire extinguisher with a gauge or equivalent (can either be dry chemical or CO/2 type extinguishers).
  37. If driver is under 16 they must have 1-year experience in the stock class.
  38. Wheelie-bars must be no less than 5" from furthest part of rear tire and no more than 5" off the ground.
  39. Wheelie-bars must hold the weight of the tractor and driver and if your tractor has actual wheels (they must be steel or aluminum wheels).
  40. No portion of tractor may exceed 7' forward from center of rear wheel.
  41. Drawbar will be horizontal and stationary in all direction.
  42. Hitch is to be no more than 3/4" thick steel with a 1 1/2" hole for hook.
  43. Pulling point may not be more than 3/4" from back edge of hitching device parallel to and not more than 13" above the ground.

Overhead Valve V Twin Class

Super Stock (50 Cubic inch)

*This class is set up by NQS rules*

  1. Any tractor having one cylinder, air cooled four cycle, flathead, or two valves on the same side of the engine, is considered a super stock.
  2. Any type of naturally aspirated induction is allowed.
  3. Methanol fuel only, no additives.
  4. All tractors are required to have a hood and grill.
  5. Wheelbase 56" maximum.

Ultra-lite tractor (single motor)

  1. All ultra-lite tractors must have a properly working kill switch.
  2. Wheelie-bars must be no less than 6" from furthest part of rear tire and no more than 6" off the ground.
  3. Wheelie-bars must hold the weight of the tractor and driver and if your tractor has actual wheels (they must be steel or aluminum wheels).
  4. Maximum tire size is 26 x 12 x 12.
  5. All ultra-lite tractors that have their carburetors facing in the direction of the driver must have a shield behind them and it can be no farther than 6" from the air cleaner.
  6. All ultra-lite tractors must have a side shield on chain to protect the drivers foot and the shield should exceed the chain by 2" in all directions.
  7. The hitch height for all ultra-lite tractors is 16" off the ground and cannot exceed 10" back from centerline of the rear axle.
  8. The weights are to be no more than 7' forward of the rear axle.
  9. The exhaust on your tractor must not be pointed toward the crowd; it must be pointed up or down.
  10. All ultra-lite tractors must have a motorcycle, snowmobile, or ATV motor (if a snowmobile motor is used, a 1/4" thick steel guard 180 degrees horizontal must be used to completely cover the side.
  11. When your legs are out by the wheels on a modified ATV or an ultra-lite tractor you must have a 2" restraint shield behind the legs with the centerline of the tire to protect your legs.
  12. All ultra-lite tractors must have 360-degree shields on all couplers and 180-degree shields on drive chains.
  13. All ultra-lite tractors must have a maximum width of 72"
  14. If you are using a hand throttle, it must be spring-loaded.

Ultra-lite tractor (Multi motor)

  1. To run in this class you must have more than one motor on your tractor.
  2. The weights can be no more than 8' from the center of the rear axle forward.
  3. The maximum tire size for this class is 31x15.5x15
  4. The tractor width is 72" maximum.
  5. The hitch height is 13" off the ground and can be no more than 10" behind center of rear axle.
  6. You must use either snowmobile, motorcycle, or ATV motors and if a snowmobile motor is used they are to have 1/4" thick steel 180 degrees horizontal and must completely cover the side.
  7. Your tractor must have 360-degree shields on all couplers or 180-degree shields on all drive chains.
  8. A hand throttle can be used as long as it is spring loaded.
  9. The exhaust on your tractor must not be pointed toward the crowd; it must be pointed up or down.
  10. Carburetors facing in the direction of the driver must have a shield behind them and it can be no farther than 6" from the air cleaner.
  11. Wheelie-bars must be no less than 6" from furthest part of rear tire and no more than 6" off the ground.
  12. Wheelie-bars must hold the weight of the tractor and driver and cannot have actual wheels (they must have a steel plate).

V-8 small block

  1. Tractor must be 4-wheeled and front tires must track within rear tires.
  2. Tractor not to exceed 8' in length from centerline of rear axle and not to exceed 6' in width.
  3. Tires are limited to 31 x 15.5 x 15, no duals, no studs, and no chains.
  4. Hitch not to exceed 13".
  5. Hitch must be approved by tech person and may not be connected to wheelie bars.
  6. Tractor must have a dead man throttle (spring loaded) with acceleration in a forward manner and must use Morse type throttle cables.
  7. Wheelie-bars must be no less than 6" from furthest part of rear tire and no more than 6" off the ground.
  8. Wheelie-bars must hold the weight of the tractor and driver and cannot have actual wheels (they must have a steel plate).
  9. No weights can hang beyond rear most point of rear tires.
  10. All seats will have a back support of at least 12"
  11. If the seat is not between the fenders it must have some kind of side restraints.
  12. Seat belts are mandatory and a harness is recommended.
  13. Roll over protection is mandatory.
  14. All moving driveline components must be shielded 360 degrees.
  15. No metal fans allowed (only electric plastic fans).
  16. Engine block must be shielded from the bottom of heads to the bottom of crank throw and from the front of the block to the back of the block with 1/8" steel.
  17. Must have fenders to protect the driver from contact with tires.
  18. Must have steel or aluminum flywheel (no cast).
  19. Must have SFI approved bell housing on all manual transmissions with block saver plate.
  20. Automatic transmissions must have SFI approved scatter blanket to cover complete transmission.
  21. Transmission must have and utilize rear transmission mount.
  22. Tractors must have ignition kill switch centered directly above hitch (If an electric fuel pump is used it must be wired to the kill switch).
  23. SFI approved harmonic balancer or 3/8" steel harmonic balancer cover for stock balancer 360 degrees and front faceplate attached with 4-3/8" bolts.
  24. Must have reverse light on back of tractor.
  25. Must have a min. 3/8" cable around axle and across hitch.
  26. Automotive V-8 engines not to exceed 375 cubic inches.
  27. Ignition No mags.
  28. Any after market or factory intake is acceptable.
  29. Any after market or factory heads are acceptable.
  30. Pump gas only, cam 2, Unocal racing gas etc.
  31. Headers must point directly upward.
  32. Neck support collar under helmet is mandatory.
  33. Tractor must only be able to be started in neutral or park.

V-8 small block Super Stock additional rules

  1. One four barrel carb Factory Stock, or After Market Holley or Edelbrock, not to exceed 750 cfm and must have the numbers to verify cfm
  2. No after market blocks. Block must have be or have been available in a production vehicle.

Outlaw class

  1. Outlaw garden tractor has to be a garden tractor engine.
  2. Outlaw ultra-lite tractor must have a motorcycle or snowmobile engine.
  3. Outlaw multi motor and small block V-8 class
    • Multi motors not to exceed 2400 cc's.
    • Small blocks not to exceed 375 cubic inches.
    • Multi motors must be motorcycle or snowmobile engines.
    • Multi motors and V-8 small blocks must have 13" max. hitch height.
